The British Red Cross is helping those involved in the Grenfell Tower fire. They are also supporting people who have been affected by the recent terror attacks in the UK, and other conflicts around the world. I chose to include this polymer clay egg in my Charity Auction because I made it following a previous terror attack.

I wrote about this Easter Egg back in 2016. The technique I used to decorate the hollow hen’s egg was a symbol of my wish that after all the injury and grief, beauty could still be found.

I made a matching stand for the egg which is included in the auction. Inside it I etched and painted a white poppy. The white poppy is a symbol of peace that embodies a rejection of killing fellow human beings for whatever reason.

Because you can’t have too much love and forgiveness, I’ve also included a pair of white poppy studs. They are made from pearlescent polymer clay, which I sculpted by hand onto surgical steel posts.

The last pair of earrings, in this blog post, looked a bit lonely waiting in the queue for new photographs. I chose them mainly because the colour matched, but I’m sure they too would appreciate a good home.

The auction will run until Sunday 9th July 2017. All the items are starting at 1p, so you might get yourself a bargain, if not it’s going to a good cause. 😉

Here is my Art Vessel for week 9 of 2016 Polymer Clay Challenge. Back in week 8, I decided to make a trinket box because I thought it would be a quicker project that I could finish in a week. It didn’t really turn out that way but I’m pleased with the finished box.

I decorated it with a white poppy like the one I made for my ring back in November. Perhaps the box is a home for the ring?

On the underside of the lid I have written “Love Forgive Understand” with a circle below. The circle is a symbol of the earth, it is a reminder that we all live together so peace (or the lack of it) affects us all. It is also a wish that we learn to love and understand our earth and ask for her forgiveness.

I chose to represent the anthers of the flower with wire as a symbol of something hostile and defensive (like barbed wire) becoming life-giving and full of potential (like pollen).

I have been distressed by the latest attacks in Paris. I don’t know what the solution is, but I know it is NOT more hatred, vengeance or bombs. I have made myself a polymer clay ring featuring the white poppy, a symbol of peace.

It is a reminder to me to pray for forgiveness, understanding and love.

It’s pretty chunky, but that is okay because it means it reminds me often during the day. 🙂

I know I can’t change the minds* of the terrible minority with their fingers on deadly buttons, but perhaps it will help me to transform my own fear into something more positive.

* Especially since I believe trying to force other people to change their minds is part of the problem.
